St. Jude's exists to help people with alcohol and drug problems, but we are not an alcohol rehab, nor do we call ourselves one. In America, "rehab" conjures up images of group therapy, 12 step meetings, and sulking "addicts" and "alcoholics" struggling with their demons. This IS NOT an accurate picture of St. Jude's. The concept of alcohol rehab is based on the idea that people are sick, dependent, weak, and in need of emotional "treatment." St. Jude's curriculum is based on the facts that people are inherently not sick, not dependent, strong, and in need of options to better make positive productive choices.

Therefore, the term rehab is defined as a program that benefits from the individual's beliefs in their weaknesses, their powerlessness, their unhappiness, their inability to cope, and that they have an incurable disease. St. Jude's carries the opposite view, so therefore we could never be defined as an alcohol rehab. We do not treat individuals because there is no disease to treat. The disease concept has been debunked for over 70 years! We do not rehabilitate anyone, because St. Jude's is not based on controlling sick patients, but rather empowering strong willed, independent, individuals who are temporarily in a state of confusion, misinformation and who live unknowing of their unlimited positive options in life.

According to a recent research performed by the Substance Abuse and Health Services Association, in the State of North Dakota for the year 2004 there were 20,000 individuals with an Alcohol Dependency, in the state of North Dakota, surprisingly needing but not receiving treatment for Alcohol Use the number only raises to 53,000 alcohol abusers. This number represents 0.27% of the total population with an Alcohol dependency abuse problem in the United States.
