Cocaine/Crack use in Arizona
Cocaine is readily available throughout Arizona with the largest quantities available in metropolitan areas. Crack has become readily available in Arizona's inner cities and in some smaller communities. 2003-2004 MSDUH results indicate that 139,000 (3.06%) Arizona citizens reported illicit drug dependence or abuse within the past year. Approximately 88,000 (1.93%) reported past year dependence. 150,000 (3.3%) were cocaine related.

According to the NSDUH data approximately 63,000 (12.57%) Arizona 12-17 year olds reported past month use of illicit drugs. 15.1 % of high school students have been found to have used cocaine at one time. Another study had found that 9.7% of ninth graders, 12.8% of tenth graders, 18.2 of eleventh graders, and 21.4% of twelfth graders have used cocaine.

During FY 2005 Arizona drug apprehension project activities resulted in the arrest of 4,472 drug violators. In 2005 alone, 1,269 adults and 61 juveniles had been arrested for the sale of cocaine. 2,660 adults and 154 juveniles had been arrested for possession of cocaine. In 2005 approximately 3,518.3 kilograms were seized by the Federal Agencies. 15.7% of federal drug cases were cocaine associated. 1.1% where crack cocaine.

During 2004 there were 28,312 drug-related hospital discharges; 21,397 drug abuse, 1,408 noxious influences affecting the fetus, and 5,507 poising by drugs.

Who attempts at getting help

During 2005 there were 46,010 admissions to drug/alcohol treatment in Arizona. 2.7% cocaine related. According to the 2003-2004 NSDUH data approximately 130,000 (2.86%) Arizona citizens reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug abuse in the last year.
