Cocaine/crack cocaine use in Indiana
Cocaine is readily available throughout the state, while crack cocaine is primarily available in the urban areas.
According to the 2003-2004 data from the NSDUH approximately 377,000 (7%) of Indiana citizens (ages 12 or older) reported past month use of an illicit drug. 20,000 (1.78% reported past year use of cocaine. Additional 2003-2004 NSDUH results indicate that 154,000 (3.02%) Indiana citizens reported illicit drug dependence or abuse within the past year. Approximately 19,000 (1.73%) reported past year illicit drug dependence.
According to the 2003-2004 NSDUH data, approximately 10% of Indiana 12-17 year olds reported past month use of an illicit drug. 10,000 (1.75%) reported past year cocaine use.
In 2005 Federal agencies seized 103.2 kilograms of cocaine.
Who attempts at getting help
During 2005, there were 36,716 admissions to drug/alcohol treatment in Indiana. 9.5% were for use of cocaine and 2.5% use of crack cocaine. According to the NSDUH data approximately 135,000 (2.64) Indiana citizens reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use within the past year.
