Powder and crack cocaine continue to be the primary drug threat in Ohio.

According to the 2003-2004 NSDUH approximately 745,000 (7.88%) Ohio (ages 12 or older) reported past month use of an illicit drug. 202,000 (2.41%) reported use of cocaine. Additional 2003-2004 NSDUH reported 261,000 (2.76%)Ohio citizens reported illicit drug dependence or abuse within the last year. Approximately 167,000 (1.76 %) reported past year illicit drug dependence.

According to the NSDUH data approximately 105,000 (10.72%) Texas 12-17 year olds reported past month use of an illicit drug. 13,000 (1.33 %) reported past year use of cocaine.

During 2005 Federal Agencies seized 374 kilograms of cocaine. During 2003, 38.6% of the federally sentenced defendants in Ohio had committed a drug offense. More than 41% of the drug cases involved powder cocaine.

Who attempts at getting help

During 2005 there were 61,669 admissions to drug/alcohol treatment in Ohio. 1,913 (3.1%) were for abuse of cocaine, 8,814(14.3%) for abuse of crack cocaine. According to the NSDUH data, approximately 232,000 (2.46%) Ohio citizens reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use within the past year.
