Cocaine/crack cocaine in Oregon
Although cocaine is available in Oregon, it is not the preferred drug abuse of the state. Crack use is high in urban areas.
According to the 2003-2004 NSDUH approximately 283,000 (9.47%) Oregon (ages 12 or older) reported past month use of an illicit drug. 66,000 (2.22%) reported use of cocaine. Additional 2003-2004 NSDUH reported 89,000 (2.98%) illicit drug dependence or abuse within the last year. Approximately 64,000 (2.15%) reported past year illicit drug dependence.
According to the NSDUH data approximately 13% Oregon 12-17 year olds reported past month use of an illicit drug. 5,000 (1.72%) reported past year use of cocaine.
During 2005 Federal Agencies seized 13.2 kilograms of cocaine.
Who attempts at getting help
During 2004 there were 45,076 admissions to drug/alcohol treatment in Oregon. 300 (0.7%) were for abuse of cocaine, 733 (1.6%) for abuse of crack cocaine. According to the NSDUH data, approximately 85,000 (2.84%) Oregon citizens reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use within the past year.
