Cocaine/crack cocaine in Pennsylvania
Cocaine has become readily available throughout Pennsylvania. While crack cocaine is most popular in urban areas.
According to the 2003-2004 NSDUH approximately 808,000 (7.8%) Pennsylvania (ages 12 or older) reported past month use of an illicit drug. 273,000 (2.63%) reported use of cocaine. Additional 2003-2004 NSDUH reported 279,000 (2.69%) illicit drug dependence or abuse within the last year. Approximately 174,000 (1.68%) reported past year illicit drug dependence.
According to the NSDUH data approximately 111,000 (10.7%) Pennsylvania 12-17 year olds reported past month use of an illicit drug. 17,000 (1.68%) reported past year use of cocaine.
During 2005 Federal Agencies seized 289 kilograms of cocaine. In 2004 64,513 grams, street value of $5,310,860, were seized by federal agencies.
Who attempts at getting treatment
During 2004 there were 64,266 admissions to drug/alcohol treatment in Pennsylvania. 3405 (5.3%) were for abuse of cocaine, 9,532(13.3%) for abuse of crack cocaine. According to the NSDUH data, approximately 246,000 (2.37%) Pennsylvania citizens reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use within the past year.
