The Director of Reservations of Saint Jude Retreats, Susanne Hermann, recently attended the National Conference on Addiction Disorders (NCAD) in California. As one of more than 1,200 attendees, this was an opportunity for her to spend time with other professionals involved with those who have problems with drugs and alcohol. Saint Jude Retreats sponsored a booth at the event, where she was able to share the message about our social education programs as compared to drug and alcohol treatment centers. She also handed out literature and explained how Saint Jude Retreats is neither a 12-step program nor an alcohol rehab facility.
During the conference there were a number of interesting sessions that were relevant to the Saint Jude Retreats philosophy. Among them was a presentation about alumni services, how they are set up, what they can do and how they function. There were many creative ideas presented about different options for social and fund raising events, as well as developing successful communications with those who have attended programs that attempt to sound similar to the Saint Jude Retreats program.
During the conference, Susanne Hermann had an opportunity to visit other display booths and speak to other attendees. Many of them were administrators and professionals from programs following a 12-step plan that were seeking a place to refer those looking for a non-12-step program.
