Chapter 1

Make the Choice

Jude Thaddeus Program

If you want to believe you have a disease, this program will be very difficult to apply to your life. A prerequisite for success with this program is to accept total responsibility for the poor choices you have made in your life, in the past and even now.

It takes thought, choice and physical action to drink, shoot up, or smoke drugs. These things do not happen over your objection or out of your control. A bottle does not leap off the table and pour itself down  your throat. A needle does not wrestle you to the ground and stick itself in your body...but you have always known this.

Be assured, your mental cravings are habits as well that, with practice, disappear completely. They are a choice. Remember, you are not coerced to think about the drinking and drugging scene by some outside force, or internal genetic force over which you have no control. Your mind is your own, as are the thoughts it produces.

Moderate or Quite For Good

How many times have you sat and wondered to yourself how your life could have gotten to such a dismal point? If you have already been through a conventional rehab program, you have probably found yourself thinking, "...not another group therapy session."

How many Alcoholics Anonymous or Narcotics Anonymous meetings have you attended thinking to yourself, "If I have to listen to one more sob story, I'm going to go drink." How many times did you become nauseous when you heard one more mindless slogan like, "Alcoholism is an 'is-m', not a 'was-m.'" These are constant thoughts to those of us who have been through the treatment ordeal. To be brainwashed into accepting that we would have a disease for the rest of our lives is, for most of us, nothing short of devastating.

When alcohol and drug use has lost its appeal, and you find that using substances is creating situations where you are consistently making very poor decisions, then abstinence, at the very least, might be a good idea.

Moderation

In reality, the people who say they have failed at moderation in the past and state how they really have no self control are fooling themselves. Most really do not want to drink or drug in moderation. They want to slow down the negative consequences, but at the same time, still be able to get drink or high... They are like the children who want to eat candy all day, but not have the stomach ache that goes with it.

If you honestly look at your past moderation attempts, did you ever really want to drink or drug in moderation?

...humans have the ability to moderate or stop using altogether, when they really want to do so. This has been proven throughout history by millions who have successfully moderated or abstained from using substances.

If you are someone who is not sure of your motives, you may want to try total abstinence until there comes a time when you can be sure what it is that you do want.  ...give yourself enough time away from mind-alterning substances so as to think clearly and make sound decisions. Usually six weeks of abstinence, combined with an honest and thorough attempt to complete the method contained in this program, gives a person a real picture of who they are and where they are headed with their life.

The experience of those people who abruptly stop abusing alcohol and other drugs is antithetical to today's pop disease culture. The drug and alcohol treatment industry considers those who stop substance abuse without the help of professional treatment as anomolies, but they are actually the norm.
