Chapter 7

Prepare the Mine

Writing a life story does not mean you now have a complete understanding of your problems. Nor should you expect your problems to be fixed right away. It is, of course, the goal to fix these defects and past transgressions. But simply writing this narrative does not assure that you have had the necessary mental and emotional transformation.

This is why you should write another version of this narrative. This second version will be much more direct and will eliminate all the dishonesty and self-based fears that are certain to be a part of the first attempt.

Many times our secrets and substance abuse pull us further and further from our families and friends and even, eventually, from ourselves. We become mentally and emotionally detached from where we should be and who we are. Close relationships with family and friends become almost nonexistent. And, even if you are still around people, you are so closed off emotionally that it is almost impossible for others to deal with you.

Writing the first life story should have created a serious internal drive to change. Now, reading your life story to someone who can understand this process builds a trustful connection to mankind, probably something you have not felt in a long time.

The result of reading the life story can be summed up in one word - relief. You will feel relieved that you no longer must run the world to support your selfish, fear-ridden needs. You will no longer feel resentful every time you don't get your way.

This is not to say you will instantly care for everyone you meet, but that should be your ultimate goal. Reading the life story is the first step toward that goal.
