Cocaine/crack use in Minnesota
Cocaine and crack cocaine continue to be among the most widely available drugs throughout Minnesota, usually coming from California, Chicago and Detroit.

According to the 2003-2004 data from the NSDUH approximately 313,000 (7.4%) Minnesota citizens (ages 12 or older) reported past month use of an illicit drug. 91,000 (2.16%) reported past year cocaine use. Additional 2003-2003 NSDUH results indicate that 120,000 (2.82%) Minnesota citizens reported illicit drug dependence or abuse within the past year. Approximately 78,000 (1.85%) reported past year illicit drug dependence.

According to the NSDUH data approximately 10% Minnesota 12-17 year olds reported past month use of an illicit drug. 8,000 (1.87%) reported past year cocaine use.

During 2005, 49.1% of federally-sentenced defendants in Minnesota were charged with drug offenses. 45 (17.6%) involved powder cocaine. 40 (15.7%) involved crack cocaine

Who attempts at getting help

During 2005 there were 43,847 admissions to alcohol/drug treatment in Minnesota. 1,698 (3%) were for use of cocaine 4,816. According to 2004-2005 NSDUH data approximately 109,000 (2.59%) Minnesota citizens reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use within the past year.
