Cocaine, particularly crack cocaine is a significant problem in the urban areas of Nevada.
According to the 2003-2004 data from the NSDUH approximately 161,000 (8.7%) Nevada citizens (ages 12 or older) reported past month use of an illicit drug. 36,000 (1.96%) reported past year cocaine use. Additional 2003-2003 NSDUH results indicate that 51,000 (2.75%) Nevada citizens reported illicit drug dependence or abuse within the past year. Approximately 33,000 (1.78%) reported past year illicit drug dependence.
According to the NSDUH data approximately 11% Nevada 12-17 year olds reported past month use of an illicit drug. 3,000 (1.51%) reported past year cocaine use.
In 2005, 145.1 kilograms of cocaine were seized by federal agencies. During 2005, 22.9% of federally-sentenced defendants in Nevada were charged with drug offenses. 26.1% involved powder/crack cocaine

During 2005 there were 9,617 admissions to alcohol/drug treatment in Nevada. 534 (5.6%) were for use of crack cocaine. 160 (1.7%) were for use of cocaine. According to 2003-2004 NSDUH data approximately 48,000 (2.6%) Nevada citizens reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use within the past year.
