Cocaine/crack cocaine in Virginia
Both powder and crack cocaine forms of cocaine are prevalent throughout the state of Virginia. Considerable levels of violence continue to be associated with the cocaine trade in urban areas.

According to the NSDUH approximately 434,000 (7.25%) Virginia (ages 12 or older) reported past month use of an illicit drug. 142,000 (2.37%) reported use of cocaine. Additional 2003-2004 NSDUH reported 176,000 (2.95%) illicit drug dependence or abuse within the last year. Approximately 116,000 (1.94%) reported past year illicit drug dependence.

According to the NSDUH data approximately 10% Virginia 12-17 year olds reported past month use of an illicit drug. 8,000 (1.34) reported past year use of cocaine.

During 2005 Federal Agencies seized 130 kilograms of cocaine. During 2003 41.3% Federally-sentences defendants in Virginia had committed a drug offense.46% of the drug cases involved crack/powder cocaine.

Who attempts at getting help

During 2004 there were 57,435 admissions to drug/alcohol treatment in Virginia. 2,396 (4.2%) were for abuse of cocaine, 8,364 (14.6%) for abuse of crack cocaine.
