We are here to HelpIn the state of Alaska, methamphetamine is a problem which is on the decline. One reason for this is that over the counter cold remedies containing pseudoephedrine have been pulled from the shelves and placed behind the counter. Many pharmacies ask for identification as well as a signature in order to purchase these substance. The number of labs seized from year 2002 to year 2004 doubles from 33 siezed in 2002 to 66 seized in 2004. By year 2006 this number decreased immensley all the way down to 4 labs siezed. The drug although continues to remain readily availible. It is sometimes imported from southeastern Asian countries in a pill form, and is referred to as "yaba". On average, about 50,000 citizens state wide have reported using methamphetamine atleast once in their lifetime. Educational programs throughout the state are taking place in order to "prevent" meth use. Television ads, radio ads, and print ads are all currently a part of this project.
