It can be easily stated that Methamphetamine use in Hawaii is worse than any other state. A majority of the existing "Ice", "tina" or as the islanders say - "batu" (a crystaline, very pure form of Methamphetamine) on the island has been smuggled in by mainlanders. A honolulu Newspaper entitled The Advisor states that; "40 percent of people arrested by police in Honolulu tested positive for methamphetamine use, (...) No other city came close to 30 percent." The Advisor also states that 44 percent of homocides, and 90 percent of child abuses cases across the islands have been linked to Crystal Meth abuse. According to state statistics, 90 percent of the inmate population in Hawaii are drug users, while only 6 percent of these in mates recieve treatment in the pennetentary. Officials state that Methamphetamine abuse has been an issue in Hawaii since the early '70s, although it became a much larger problem in the 1990s. More residents admit themselves into a rehabilitation center for Crystal Meth each day, than are admitted for alcohol alone.
