Like Many mid-western states, Methamphetamine is the largest concern and drug issue statewide. It is becoming more and more popularly manufactured throughout the state although Mexican Drug Trafficking Organizations continue to import it, along with street gangs, and independent dealers. Most Laboratories in the state are low production, producing less than an ounce during a production cycle. In the western region of the state it is produced fairly simply in about an hour’s time, to be 95 percent pure, while in eastern parts of the states, it may take up to three hours to prepare the same amount at about 90 percent purity. During years 1999-2000 it was found through surveys of high school students, that Methamphetamine use came second only to Marijuana use. 13.1 percent of the twelfth graders surveyed in the state reported lifetime use, and 11.5 percent of all high school students admitted to have used the drug at least once.
