Methamphetamine is rarely produced, abused or distributed in the state of Rhode Island, and is not considered a drug threat to the state. Health officials although, report that treatment admissions in relation to the drug are on the rise. In 1997 only 7 treatment admissions were Meth related while in 2001 16 were Meth related. Law enforcement officials seized no Methamphetamine from year 1998 to year 2002. Only one production laboratory was seized from year 1998 to year 2003.
In 2012 however, Crystal Meth in Rhode Island was back on the rise with in-state drug dealers working with shipments from a California meth ring. Eastern Crystal Meth deals are less frequent because of the distance from Mexico, Arizona and California but still do occur. Typically these deals have been going on for several month or even years before the DEA Task Force catch up to them. Along with Crystal Meth in Rhode Island, ecstasy and cocaine are very popular among young crowds, especially at night clubs. Still there are some Rhode Island Drug Rehab and Treatment Programs, that target young adults who are introduced to the drugs due to their inexpensive cost. Taking Crystal Meth can cause serious internal and external damage to the body, causing lasting physical harm.
