Will I Be Drug Free After Drug Detox?

Saint Jude's Can Help You Remain Drug Free After Detox

Becoming Drug Free Is Possible

Making the decision to enter a detox program is a step in the direction of regaining control of your life. If you want to know, will I be drug free after drug detox, the answer is yes, if you want to be. If you want to remain drug free after drug detox, you may want to enter a program that can help you.

Excessive drug use results in chemical toxins accumulating in your system. Drug detox will remove the toxins and cleanse your system leaving you drug free. During detox, it is not uncommon to experience withdrawal symptoms. Withdrawal symptoms vary with the type of drug used, how often you have used drugs, the amount of the drug used and the length of time you have been using drugs. Withdrawal symptoms may include nausea and vomiting, headaches, anxiety and irritability, body aches, flu like symptoms and seizures.

Not everyone who uses drugs needs detox. Some drugs, such as cocaine and methamphetamine do not require drug detoxification. If you are not certain as to whether nor not you need drug detox, you should check with your doctor.

What Types Of Drug Detox Are There?

If you are looking for a detox that will leave you drug free after the drug detox, inpatient medical detox will allow you to enter a detox program for a specified number of days and when you leave you can be free from drug use as long you specify to the detox personnel that this is your goal as some will prescribe you medications to take once you return home. Nonmedical drug detox is another option for you to consider and is available as both outpatient and inpatient. Nonmedical drug detox takes a natural approach to detox using acupuncture, yoga, vitamin therapy and meditation therapy. This method works for some individuals but not all and in some cases is not advisable for your safety.

Traditional inpatient hospital medical detox allows you to check into a hospital for drug detox. Traditional detox is seen as an ineffective approach by many for several reasons. Patients are placed in psychiatric units, kept on lockdown or in isolation. Patients are restricted from outside contact and are not permitted to bring any personal items into detox. The oral medication that is used in hospital detox has been seen as ineffective at stopping the withdrawal symptoms for patients. Patients have reported that they were uncomfortable and many have walked out of detox before the process was complete.

This last point is important because research has shown that individuals who successfully complete drug detox are more likely to stop their drug use permanently than those who do not complete the detox process.

IV therapy medical detox is regarded by doctors as the best method for drug detox. IV therapy is supervised by a physician and the intravenous method allows the doctor to make immediate changes to the medication protocol to meet the changes of the withdrawal symptoms as they occur. Patients are kept comfortable and are more likely to complete the detox process.
