More than half of the population in the U.S. has excessive alcohol use issues and a small percentage of those have a physical "dependency." Tragically, the vast majority of them will never receive the help they need for their substance use because they believe that it is too expensive or they simply do not have the money to spend on detox. If you are in need of detox and want to know is there financial aid for drug and alcohol detox; there are programs available that can help.
First of all, detox is not too expensive. When you consider the amount of money you have spent on drugs and/or alcohol, the cost is minimal. Depending on the type of detox you use, you could spend a few hundred dollars to a few thousand and more. Non-medical detox programs such as acupuncture, yoga, meditation therapy and vitamin therapy may cost a few hundred dollars. You can find nonmedical holistic detox in outpatient and inpatient facilities with the inpatient service offering the opportunity to get away and relax. However these methods may be dangerous if you are indeed of needing a medical detox.
Outpatient medical detox, such as methadone clinics use the drug methadone to detox over time from the substance you have been using. Methadone is an opiate narcotic from the same family of drugs as morphine and vicodin. Unfortunately, you are basically substituting one drug for another. Studies show that some individuals begin taking methadone and never stop taking the drug. If you decide to quit taking methadone, you will likely experience withdrawal symptoms and for a longer period of time than most other substances you were trying to replace.
Methadone clinics are low cost and sometimes free to the clients because they are government funded and paid for by the taxpayers. Even though it may not cost you anything to detox through a methadone clinic, this does not make it a positive option. You are still taking a physically altering drug that will require a medical detox later on!
Inpatient medical detox is usually a bit more expensive than some of the other options. Inpatient hospital medical detox costs less than inpatient private medical detox. However, the difference in the cost may be sacrificed in the quality of care that you will receive.
Hospital detox generally places patients in the psychiatric unit or floor, in isolation or on lockdown with multiple patients to a room. Patients are not allowed to bring in personal items, including cell phones or laptops and they are not permitted to communicate with anyone outside of detox. Hospital detox uses oral medication that in many doctor's opinions is not effective at controlling the discomfort from withdrawal symptoms.
Private inpatient medical detox, such as IV therapy medical detox is regarded by many doctors as the best method for detox. Patients are placed in private rooms, allowed personal items, are given gourmet meals and receive massage therapy.
IV therapy medical detox is administered by a physician and intravenous therapy is relevant because it allows the doctor to adjust the medication to meet the withdrawal symptoms and to ensure the comfort level of the patient. This level of care allows the patient to complete the detox process.
While each of these methods is uniquely different in methods and cost, your inability to pay for it should not deter you from getting the help you need. Most all detox services work with a finance company that can help you make arrangements to pay for the service.
Theresa, Jim, Mark, Shannon, Renata, AlL the people at the St. Jude Retreats: I did not realize how much of an influence you all have had on my life until I have run into situations where I feel nothing is going right. In the each situation I have learned "from you" to look at the positive, in everything however small it may seem. Wow what a difference it makes focusing on the positive part of everything instead of the negative. I could give you numerous examples but they would be too lengthy to mention. Thank you again for teaching and coaching me to always look at the positive part of everything even if it only a small part of the total picture!More Testimonials Here
