Washington state in 2007, according to the Office of Narcotic Drug Control Policies (ONDCP) had 1,003 people die from drug use. From 2007-2008, Washington scored as one of the top ten states for several drug use groups for people aged 12 and up for using illicit drugs and marijuana in the past month and for using non-medical pain relievers in the past year. In 2009, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), reported that there were 68,688 discharges from drug and alcohol detox centers and of that amount, 25, 513 completed their program, 16,214 transferred, 12,502 dropped out, 8,402 were kicked out, 1,353 were incarcerated, had 145 deaths and 4,559 for unknown reasons.
In 2010, Washington state was able to refund and restart their Prescription Monitoring Program and are a part of the Drug Take-Back Program that educates others on how to dispose meds properly and safely. The ONDCP in 2011, supported Washington with grants so that 31 of their Drug Free Communities (DFC) Programs could stay running so they could help their youth and communities battle this war on drugs. They also have the Above the Influence Anti-Drug Media Campaign to help educate their young on how to prevent drug and alcohol use that surrounds them. Washington also has the Northwest HIDTA that helps the local, state and Federal law enforcement agencies to take down drug traffickers and gangs by providing them with enhanced equipment and technology and other resources if needed.

If you are interested in a non-12 step program, please be thorough with your research. You want to make a decision that you are content with.
