Dr. David R. Rudy

Dr. David R. Rudy, author of, Becoming Alcoholic: Alcoholics Anonymous and the Reality of Alcoholism, joins the Saint Jude's Board of Directors:

All of us at St. Jude's welcome Dr. Rudy to the board. We look forward to his expertise in the field of alcoholism studies and social welfare becoming a contribution to the St. Jude Retreats and our continued evolution of our world famous programs.

Dr. David R. Rudy, Professor of Sociology and Dean of the Institute for Regional Analysis and Public Policy at Morehead State University, earned the Ph. D. in sociology at Syracuse University. Author of Becoming Alcoholic: Alcoholics Anonymous and the Reality of Alcoholism (1986, Southern Illinois University Press) and co-editor (with Jim Orcutt) of Drugs, Alcohol, and Social Problems (forthcoming 2003, Rowan and Littlefield), Rudy's current research interests include regional program development, policy analysis, alcohol-related social movements, and drinking behavior.

Professor Rudy's prior work has appeared in Sociological Analysis, Sociological Inquiry, Qualitative Sociology, Sociology and Social Welfare, The Journal of Studies on Alcohol and several anthologies. A member of the Board of Directors of the Society for the Study of Social Problems and former chair of MSU's department of Sociology, Social Work, and Criminology, Rudy has resided in Morehead for 20 years with his wife, Mary.
