Most Drug Rehabs are 12-step disease model. Majority of the help they provide is ineffective and there are no studies to back the disease model. In the last five years, there has also been an increase in the number of drug rehabs who claim to be "holistic". These drug rehab clinics have simply repackaged the disease model by calling the problem a "choice based dependency." Dependency, although sounding much less intimidating than "disease," means the same thing! Heroin is something you chose to do, if you are confused about this statement call one of our family consultants and learn why.
In recent surveys preformed by The White House Office of National Drug Control Policy (ONDCP), 27,623 or 16.2% of California's 170,299 Drug and Alcohol abusers that admitted themselves into treatment for Heroin. Not including the 19,597 state residents who admitted themselves into treatment for either opiates or more than one drug. Studies also show that 861,000 or 3% of California's citizens reported needing but not receiving treatment for illicit drug use in the past year. There were also studies that showed 2.8% of high school adolescents had used heroin at some point in their lives. The increased availability of high purity heroin that can be snorted allows a new, younger population to use heroin without a syringe and needle. Drug treatment specialists stated that these new heroin users ingest large amounts of heroin and become quickly addicted. Law enforcement officials normally encounter ethnic West African and Southeast Asian nationals in the distribution and transportation of Asian heroin. California does not have any noticeable heroin abuse in its Asian communities. Reports that high purity Colombian heroin is now available in the counties surrounding Los Angeles is supported by the recent seizure of 200 grams of Colombian heroin by law enforcement in Ventura County.
Thinking there is no way out of relapse for Heroin? Seeking another treatment program is likely to give you or a loved one the same or worse results. Research proves treatment doesn’t work. You can move beyond Drug addiction with a non 12 Step approach that offers a permanent solution.
When you live in California, finding the right Drug addiction treatment can seem difficult. You know you want a program that works and will last. You know you don’t want to end up in a cycle of relapse and return.
Relapse is a serious issue and all the more so as treatment not only ignores dealing with it but instills an expectation and fear of relapse in those who go to treatment. It’s not uncommon for people to be told while in treatment to expect to be back for more treatment when they fail. In only one year in California, 38,285 people sought treatment for Heroin addiction and 77.3% or 29,594 people relapsed. On the one hand treatment tells you that you are the cause of relapse yet they never give you information or help to move beyond. A more effective long term solution is a non 12 Step program that not only gives you accurate information on addiction but also helps you write a solid plan for meeting the goals and dreams of your life. At Saint Jude Retreats, we start with addiction but that’s just the beginning.
