According to studies performed by the Office of Applied Studies, National Survey on Drug Use and Health, 2003 and 2004, the total number of people ages 12 and older in the state of Nevada who used marijuana in the past year is 214,000. Of the 214,000, 36,000 were between the ages of 12 and 17. 63,000 past year marijuana users were of ages 18 to 25 and 115,000 were 26 and older. Total use of marijuana in the past month, according to the same survey, by people ages 12 and older is 85,000. 14,000 were ages 12 to 17, 32,000 were 18-25 and 39,000 were age 26 or older.
Nevada as of June 12, 2013 became the fourteenth state to legalize medical marijuana use their state which will provide at least 40 medical marijuana dispensaries. This law will also allow home growing until 2016 and will benefit 3,785 medical marijuana patients and many more. The program will be set up as self-funding and will solely rely on the tax revenues and license fees that will have a 2% excise tax on wholesale and retail sales and support education purposes that will receive three fourths of it and 25% towards running the program.
