According to the National Institute of Health, nearly 20 percent of the total drug treatment admissions in 2011 were because of cocaine use. The majority of those smoked crack and used other drugs and alcohol as well. Getting help for your cocaine use is a step in the right direction to reclaim control of your life, but does cocaine addiction therapy work, especially since research shows that there is no physical dependency and no physical withdrawal from cocaine?
Traditional cocaine rehab, especially those that implement 12 step programs, would have you believe that you have an addiction disease and that there is no cure, no hope and you are powerless. Traditional cocaine addiction treatment claims that you will need therapy for the rest of your life and that abstinence and belief in a higher power are the only treatment that can manage your disease.
Cocaine addiction therapy from a 12 step program requires members to participate in group therapy and counseling that usually turn into sessions where angry substance users vent their hostilities about their drug use and how no one understands their disease. 12 step programs use methods that include labeling and manipulation to control their members. While 12 step programs seem to be popular and successful with a large number of people enrolling into their programs, the truth is that 60 to 95 percent of the people who enroll drop out because they cannot achieve success. For the individuals who attend 12 step meetings, relapse is considered a part of recovery as well.
The truth is that you are not diseased. You are not a cocaine addict and you can take back control of your life from cocaine use. You use cocaine because you simply want to use cocaine. You made the choice to use cocaine and your brain has learned to that when cocaine is entered into the body a pleasurable feeling will be created. For you it’s a habit, and habits can certainly be broken with hard work. The question is are you ready for something different that doesn’t involve addiction therapy?
St. Jude Retreats is an alternative to 12 step programs and cocaine addiction treatment. We do not use replacement drugs as substitutes for cocaine use and we do not believe in the cocaine disease or addiction genes. Our purpose is not to control your life, but rather how to teach you how to take back control of your life.
Our guests understand that their current situation is a result of the choices they have made. Their choice to use cocaine was supported by the habit of using cocaine and then reinforced by the behavior. Through the St. Jude Program, which is 100% non-treatment based, our guests realize that by making different, more useful choices and developing more positive habits and behavior, they become more confident and discover the strength to be more assertive and proactive in their own life. They have the power to take back control and to have a life that is free of cocaine use.
