Making the decision to get help with excessive alcohol use is a first step to regaining control over your life. The decision usually leads to the question, "do I need an alcohol clinic?" To answer this question there are a few things to consider.
Most people think that in order to overcome their alcohol use they have to enroll in a 12 step alcohol program. It is a common misconception that just because millions of people enroll in a 12 step program, that millions of people are successful in 12 step programs. In fact, no one is successful in 12 step programs because those programs promote the idea that alcohol use is a disease for which there is no cure. If you are diseased and there is no cure, everybody loses.
12 step programs tell you that at best you can receive treatment, but you will not be able to control your alcohol use, so you will fail. 12 step programs tell you that you will need treatment forever, because there is no cure for your disease. They will not tell you that they have a dropout rate of up to 95 percent.
12 step programs use tactics like manipulation to control the members as a way to keep them coming back for more treatment. Their meetings are filled with bitter and angry people who cannot seem to control their alcohol use because they believe the lie that it is not their fault because they are diseased. 12 step programs take away any measure of hope for the problem drinker. They tell people they are alcoholic, this is how it is; they must accept it and give up the chance of every living a productive life again without the 12 steps.
However, there is an alternative to alcohol clinics. Freedom Model Retreats is not a 12 step program, and we are not a rehab. We do not use other medications to replace alcohol use. Rather, Freedom Model Retreats offers hope and confidence to alcohol users who are ready to make a permanent change in their lives, Many people who come to Freedom Model's have tried all the other options.
First of all you are not diseased! Alcohol use is a choice that you make: the choice to drink alcohol. You always have the power to make a different choice.
